EcoBins is a technological platform for managing the process of collecting municipal waste. It helps to monitor and optimize this process, making it cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
EcoBins is a smart city service utilizing Internet of Things infrastructure for an improved management of the municipal waste collection.
Sensors mounted in containers measure their filling level in regular time intervals. Depending on the model, the sensor can also report current position, tilt level and temperature inside the container.
The sensors automatically send the collected data to the main server. To achieve this, they connect to the Internet using a local GSM network.
Data from the sensors is processed online by the software in the cloud, which organizes and displays it to the users of the system through the EcoBins portal and a mobile app.
The portal is used by the municipality and the waste management companies. After logging in, the users get access to all of the system's data and functionality.
Each registered container is assigned an id, working capacity, stored material type, location and minimum required emptying frequency.
EcoBins registers changes in filling level for each of the containers and displays their status info on an interactive city map.
Based on the sensor data, the system automatically recognizes if any of the containers has problems: is overfull, turned over or on fire. EcoBins also alarms in case of an unauthorized emptying (potential theft) and other problems that are reported by citizens (see: mobile app).

EcoBins proposes the shortest possible collection routes, directing only to those locations, where collection is really needed, either because the container is full or because its emptying deadline has been reached. The optimization algorithm takes also into account such factors as the number and type of trucks, crew working schedules and even current traffic conditions.
City dwellers can use the mobile application to search for containers in the area and view their current filling levels. The app also allows them to signal problems with them or report the need for new or larger containers.
We offer products for containers of various types. The key part of these products are intelligent sensors.
Depending on the model, central sensors examine in real time container's current fill levels and/or its current position.
Access control system prevents unauthorized admittance. It's clear for administrators who were allowed to open any given container as well as who and when actually did it.

Shorter and less frequent truck routes mean saving resources and less pollution.
Refuse trucks visit inhabited areas only when they are really needed. There are no overfull containers and all other problems are dealt with in a timely manner.
Thanks to the truck route optimization, collection companies save time and fuel. According to our estimates these savings can reach 15-30%, depending on the serviced area and the number of containers.
City dwellers are given a simple tool for reporting their needs and problems, and municipal workers can respond to them more quickly and efficiently. Thanks to this, a common ground is built for cooperation and pro-ecological attitudes.
The performance of the collection crews is automatically monitored and documented. The documentation is easily available for both parties: the municipality and the waste collection company.
Directive 2008/98/EC Directive require EU Member States to achieve 50% waste recycyling rate in 2020. This requirement depends the most on municipalities and now EcoBins help them keep accurate statistics, discover waste thefts and gather reports on false waste declarations.
Using EcoBins is easy because it does not require expensive up-front investments. All it takes is to install sensors in waste containers. We will take care of the rest. To access the EcoBins portal all is needed is and Internet browser.
Set-up and usage costs, including the cost of buying sensors and license fees, depend on a number of factors and we always adjust it to best suit the customer's needs.
